The RNLI
In September 2022, ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd welcomed Max Wiseman to the team. Max joined the team as a Systems & Service Sales Consultant and has worked closely alongside the Managing Director, Andy Burridge and Commercial Director, John Pearman to further develop the customer portfolio across the South Coast.
Max brought a vast knowledge of all things security and has helped shaped the security side of the business alongside our Senior Security Engineer. This included achieving the accreditation with SSAIB to offer accredited security solutions.
In addition to work Max achieves with ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd, he has been a crew member on the Selsey Lifeboat crew for the last 13 years, joining on his 17th Birthday he followed in his father’s footsteps who has been on the crew for 40 years. The RNLI has been a lifelong passion of Max’s, as he has been around lifeboats from a very young age and has been an avid follower of anything related to the RNLI.
Given the nature of Max’s relationship with the RNLI and Selsey Lifeboat, it was very important that he found an employer willing to support his passion and commitment to the RNLI. During the interview process, Max made it clear how important this role was to him and the offering it allowed him to make to his local community and this mindset was very much inline with ARC’s core values. As well as this, we informed Max about Alan Simpson (CEO), who was previously a serving fireman prior to starting ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd – this connection was so important to us and we ensure that all our colleagues are able to share their endeavours with us. We are continuously proud of Max and Alan for their dedication to the services in both the past and present.
Max has settled into his role incredibly well and has become and instrumental member of the team at ARC Fire Safety and Security Ltd, having built strong relationships with both the engineering teams and the office teams, all while continuing to support his role at Selsey Lifeboat Station. Additionally, Max is currently a volunteer lifeboatman for the emergency services – which means even in his current role, he continues to support and care for the RNLI and has even featured in the ‘Saving Lives at Sea’ documentary on BBC Two!
ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd have offered huge amounts of flexibility to support Max with his commitment including allowing Max to work in a hybrid role. Working in Field Sales, Max is very much responsible for his own diary management and his unwavering commitment to the RNLI in no way impacts his commitment to his role with ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd. Max manages his diary in such a way that he will often sit multiple customer appointments at client sites during the course of the week while allowing periods of administration at his desk. During the administration periods, Max remains on call for the Selsey Lifeboat at which time he may be called upon to answer an emergency call during the working day or even in the early hours of the morning.
ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd are more than happy to allow Max to respond for these calls for help with the summer months often being the busiest periods. To date the Lifeboats at Selsey Lifeboat station have launched a total of 58 times during the course of 2024 and aided numerous people in distress of which ARC were proud to support this important work.
Max qualified as an Inshore Lifeboat Helmsman in July 2023, whereby he is now responsible for the management of a rescue on the Inshore Lifeboat at Selsey. Much like his work life, Max strives to be the very best at all he does and since joining ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd has certified as an Intruder Alarm, CCTV and Access Control engineer to supplement his role in Sales. While Max’s primary role is to support our existing customers while engaging new customers, he will often be found with tools in his hand on site working alongside our engineers and helping the team when timelines start to become tight. This mentality applies to his career with the RNLI as Max has mastered numerous roles at Selsey Lifeboat Station including becoming a certified Launch and Recovery Driver on the Bobcat Launch Vehicle and the SLARS (Shannon Launch and Recovery System) which is a large 32 ton tracked vehicle. In addition to this Max is also a Head Launcher, responsible for the safe launch and recovery of the lifeboats in addition to being an All Weather Lifeboat Crewmember and a Inshore Lifeboat Crewmember and Helmsman all while holding down the role as one of the stations Certified Casualty Care Practitioners.
During his 13-year tenure with the RNLI, Max has saved a total of 3 Lives (the criteria for a life saved is very specific) that otherwise would have been lost if not for RNLI intervention and has aided in assisting many hundreds of others including searching for missing people to rescuing stranded sailors from their sinking vessels and dealing with medical incidents.
We fortunate to have Max on the team at ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd and he is always keen to return his thanks to the business for their unwavering support. Max will always deliver a solid’s days’ work to ensure his workload is managed and to ensure that his customers receive the dedicated account management that ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd offer all their customers.
It goes without saying that all at ARC Fire Safety & Security Ltd are proud of Max’s commitment to the RNLI and we thank Max for his continued service to both the RNLI and ARC.
